Detailed Description
Assigns fake rank hierarchy starting from a top node, e.g. for uniformity of viral classification with other 'kingdoms'.
Ranks are taken from a given list. The process goes from top to bottom and stops when leaf is found
or if an already assignd 'species' rank is encountered. We want to preserve the originally assigned
'species' ranks because the distinction between 'species' and underlying 'strains' can be important
when we subsequently select genetic sequence for a given rank.
